You are so right about the data entry scams!! This is my personal favorite:

PART TIME/FULL TIME APPLICATION PROCESSOR E-MAIL SPECIALISTS POSITIONS Immediate openings available in data entry order processing field paying hundreds of dollars weekly. Seeking responsible, honest self motivated people who are well organized. You can work full or part time. Applicants should have internet access, a valid e-mail address, good typing ability and good communications skills. No experience required. If you'd like further information on this opportunity, please contact me. No resume is required and nobody is turned down.


I fell for this one. I've seen the "one time fee" range anywhere from $5 to $40 and the kit consists of instructions on how to post for free and sell the very ad they email you back with. Craigslist is usually full of them. I've made it my daily mission to scour Craigslist every day and click the prohibited button. I tried posting my own ad about what a scam it is but it was pulled within a few hours. They try to disguise it and hide it in different categories but I can almost always find it when no one else has. A few have tried opening a web site to lure people in. I guess they think it makes them look legitimate.

Another good one is the emails telling me I won some overseas lottery. How can I win when I didn't enter?

Here's one of the counterfeit checks emails I just received today.

Just came across your site. So many scams out there. Tell me what you think of this one? It resembles the last one on your website. I bit and am out no money but am still curious if it is a scam or not since I do research for a living and cannot find a company by this name. There are red flags everywhere. The packing slips in each shipment have “bill to” information that are always different and are always foreign (Russian, African, etc.) The packages come to me directly from the manufacturer but I am being asked to ship them to Nigeria. I was told payment would be received via Western Union (another red flag,) and it’s been 6 weeks with no payments received. The shipping labels I get come from a different email address every time. I know it’s a scam but just have not been able to prove it so any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

I received 15 ads via CareerBuilder and Monster.com for so-called job offers in a 2 week period! Each one of these described themselves as being an out of USA and needed help processing their money: furniture sales, health services, a staffing agency for US IT programmers who need to get paid, etc. All kinds of stories!!

I have since routed these onto a federal website for their review and follow-up. The one that most alarmed me was from the UK Commerce Bank. No letterhead and no department...only the offer of if I were to invest $1K within 1 month I would see $10K. He is under investigation now. I routed the message to the UK Commerce Bank for their follow-up.

Again, thanks for the clear information...more people should have the integrity to not process US dollars.

I too was scammed like Grace. This happened to me last Oct, I answered an ad from the Sacramento Classifieds. I was arrested, spent 6 days in jail and it is not over yet. I am still going to court where they want me to plead to a misdeamener charge of (actually I am not even sure if it is fraud or ?? I told them no way I am not guilty I am a victim here. The check they sent me, I checked it out on the internet, there was such a place and the signers of the check existed so I went to the bank to open an account and bam off to jail I went I still get emails usually every day from scammers like this offering jobs where you take checks and cash them keeping 10% and wired the rest of the money to them.
This also happened to me a month or two before this incident. My own bank did not tell me this, I had to research this/ Let people know that just because your bank says a check has cleared (after 5 days) that doesnt mean squat. It can take up to 30 days or more and then (even though the bank said it was clear)you get a letter from your bank saying non sufficient funds or the check was stolen or counterfieted So what happens is after 5 days the bank cleared their check, you send your own money to these scammers and a week later you are in debt to your bank whatever amount you sent. Mine happened to be 3400.00$

I would like to add something. Personally, I am always suspicious of
anything that states "This is not a scam." If something is not a scam,
it would go without saying. People stipulate "This is not a scam" only
when it's obvious that "scam" is written all over it.

I was looking to work at home and came upon The Results Group (TRG) Internet Solutions. I talked to a phone rep and was advised this would be my own business and they would set up 3 websites for me
1) Amazon Site-www.shoppersgonewild.com
2) Overstock Site- www.myshopster.com- i was to be paid $5 for ea person that signed on to buy and a commision of 7%
3) Casino Site-www.myvegasonline.com- i was told i would get $20 for ea person that signed on and i would get 45% of what customer loses.

I paid $219.00 for them to set up my web business and i received my Certifiate of Ownership. Was given user id and passwork, they help me set up a yahoo account.
Then I was told blah blah on Advertising the more money I paid the more money I would make. They would all the work for me and target many people to my site. So I agreed to paid around another $1,000.
The Key was to advertise!!
So every week I would check my sites and never made a penny back.

I have made many bad choices with looking for a at home job. But is the most money I lost.

Dear Jackie,
Great job on the blog. People like me need more help like this in this cold, cruel world. My name is R. I have been trying to be a SAHM since my daughter was born. She is going to be 17 months this month and I am still trying to work it out.
There is a landfill of scams out there. I admire you for attempting to sift through such a staggering mass of scams. The scam I fell for was the "form processor" and "admin work" It's similar to the envelope stuffing scam. I paid 11 dollars and they sent me the "training materials" which consists of directions on how to post the same exact ad and ask the next sucker for a fee ranging from 10-20 dollars. I only lost 11 dollars but I was still pretty upset for being ripped off. I felt really stupid. It's rampant on craigslist, and that's where I originally discovered it. Guess an honest days pay is not so popular anymore.
